St. Ignace welcomes travelers to the Upper Peninsula. This community of over 2,500 offers all the resources road-trippers might want- restaurants, hotels, stores and attractions. The city hugs the Huron lake shore and everywhere you turn in downtown you’ll see gorgeous views of the water, Mackinac Island, and the Mackinac Bridge.

As you explore downtown, you’ll become aware of centuries of human activity. For hundreds of years, Ojibwa, Huron, and Odawa gathered along the Straits, relying on the rich fisheries. The Jesuit Priest Father Marquette founded a mission at this point in 1671 and a fur trade post was established ten years later. The site remained important economically and politically through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Today, the Museum of Ojibwa Culture and the Michilimackinac Historical Society preserve and promote this long history.

St. Ignace is also a Trail Town, both the iconic North Country Trail and the Iron Belle Trail run through the City. Hikers, bikers, and ATV/ORVs all make St. Ignace their home port for exploring hundreds of miles of trails.
